The Woolen Warrior is the second segment of the twenty-fifth episode of the television show Pucca. It first aired on May 4, 2007.

Synopsis[]

Garu climbs a mountain to prove his new Firewasp Ninja rank. While he battles the elements (with some help from Pucca's love sweater), Tobe tries to get there first.

Plot[]

Sooga Village is holding a ceremony for Garu, who is the first ninja to reach the level of Firewasp in over 200 years. To complete his training, he must climb a terrifyingly high mountain, face it’s many challenges, and reach the top without freezing. Pucca wants to aid his task and sets out to knit him a sweater, using any kind of material she can get her hands on.

Garu is to receive Sacred Tools to help his quest but Tobe, who is not pleased with Garu's new rank, has swapped the tool bag with a decoy. Pucca swoops in to give Garu her completed sweater which Master Soo declares a beautiful gift, though Garu doesn’t feel the same. Either way, he's forced to wear it and while Soo prevents Pucca from following Garu since he must make the trek alone, he worries for the young ninja who trips over the lopsided sweater sleeves.

Garu makes his way through the woods and isn't happy to find his sweater picks up all kinds of debris, including squirrels. While trudging up a muddy slope, the too long sleeves are dragged though the muck and whipped by the wind until they slap him in the face. Having had enough, he ditches the sweater and while trying to carry on, finds his backpack contains only a cinderblock. Beyond annoyed, the ninja want to press forwards but the freezing winds prove too much to bear, so he swallows his pride and puts the sweater back on. It does its job of keeping him warm and he continues with his quest. From a distance, Tobe is watching him, intent on using the real Sacred Tools he stole to beat Garu to the top of the mountain. He tries to use the compass to find a shortcut but this leads him to the lair of a mountain tiger. He throws out catnip as a distraction but the wind blows it back into his face and he is promptly mauled.

Garu has reached a sheer cliff of ice and while it seems insurmountable, he receives an astral projection message from Master Soo with advice to use his ninja skills. The message is intruded upon by Abyo who shows of a few Kung Fu moves, to Garu's concern. Garu racks his brain and, finding that his sweater sticks to the ice pretty well, he uses it to get him up the cliff. Tobe tries to outdo him by using spiked climbing boots but when the oblivious Garu kicks a rock down into his face, he falls down the mountain.

Back in Sooga Village, Ching is painting Abyo's portrait while they wonder about Garu, though Abyo has bigger worries as Pucca is knitting a new creation using the thread from his pants.

Garu has reached the mountain top and can see a temple in the distance. But Tobe takes this as the moment to ambush him and launch a battle for who will get to the temple first. Tobe brandishes the Sacred Tools but they can't hold up against Garu using Pucca's sweater as a weapon. Their fight breaks the ice beneath their feet and both fall. Tobe again turns to his sacred tools and uses a grappling hook to catch a passing plane which drags him through the air and smacks him into several mountain tops. Garu's sweater has caught a threat on the cliff, unraveling but ultimately saving him from hitting the bottom.

Stuck at the bottom of the chasm, Garu is again visited by Master Soo's astral projection who offers him encouragement. He is cut off by Pucca using his beard for more knitting threads and she pushes him aside to plant a kiss on Garu before the vision fades. Garu takes inspiration from this and uses two icicles to re-knit Pucca's sweater, simultaneously bringing him back to the top of the mountain. He reaches what he thought was a magnificent temple but was really just a display as Santa congratulates him for passing his test. Garu leaves his image on the sacred rock beside other Firewasp ninjas of the past, only to find a carving of him and Pucca kissing as she really did follow him up the mountain.

The noodle girl pounces on him, trapping him in her new sweater made for two. While Soo returns to give more advice, he becomes distracted as he maidens greatly admire his clean-shaved face, courtesy of Pucca. Garu cannot escape Pucca's embrace this time.
