Garu of the Jungle is the second segment of the twenty-second episode of the Pucca television series. It first aired on April 9, 2007.

Synopsis[]

Pucca and the chefs search for Garu of the Jungle until Tobe tries to capture him.

Plot[]

The segment starts with Pucca, Uncle Dumpling, Linguini, and Ho exploring the jungles of Sooga Island via a boat. After enduring hungry crocodiles, wild rapids, and a waterfall, the group decides to continue their safari on foot after their boat is punctured by a hippopotamus (which later eats Ho alive, prompting Pucca to save him). As they continue on their safari, the group encounters an angry jungle lion. As the big cat menacingly approaches them, a jungle boy comes to their rescue by cutting the lion's mane off. That's when the chefs realize that whoever saved them was none other than Garu of the Jungle and that Pucca is smitten by him. They then plan to get themselves into trouble to get Garu to them. Unbeknownst to them, Tobe is eavesdropping on their plan and plans to capture Garu and turn him into a trophy for his wall.

First, the chefs trap themselves in quicksand to get Garu's attention. He successfully saves them and when Pucca tries to get closer to him, Tobe accidentally nets her instead of Garu. Angry at Tobe for ruining her chance to be with her savior, Pucca breaks the net open, ties him up with it and throws him off the branch. Tobe is caught by a low-hanging branch at the last minute and gloats about Pucca failing to get rid of him. Unfortunately, his joy was short-lived when an anaconda constricts and suffocates him.

Next, the chefs (specifically, Dumpling and Linguini) make enough noise to trigger an elephant stampede to get Garu's attention again. Hearing their 'call' of distress, Garu sets off while riding on a giraffe. He saves Ho (who was selected to be victim of the stampede). When he notices Pucca and Tobe (the latter with a cage) heading towards his directions, he throws Ho aside and jumps away, leading to Tobe trapping Pucca in his cage. In retaliation, Pucca bends two bars to free herself, traps Tobe inside the cage, and throws him away. Tobe thinks of another plan to capture the jungle boy when Tobe's minions motion him to look out for the elephants. Tobe tells them to be quiet as he is thinking, unaware that the elephants are heading towards him, promptly running him over.

Last, at a bridge precariously hanging over a cliff, the chefs put their third plan into motion by pretending to be three jungle tribesmen (complete with masks and grass skirts) and 'sacrificing' Pucca (as she is the one in danger this time). As Garu swoops in, Pucca runs in and hugs him, making the chefs' plan a success. Suddenly, Tobe, still with the intent to capture Garu, appears with machetes. As he brandishes his machetes, Tobe notices that everyone was on either side of the bridge (Garu, Pucca, and the chefs on one side, his minions on another). That's when he realizes that he inadvertently cut the bridge, which leads to him falling into the river below the cliff.

Pucca then chases Garu down but he escapes by climbing up a tree and swinging on a vine. Pucca is saddened that Garu can't be with her and the chefs tells her to accept it as it is, since Garu cannot be brought back to Sooga Village in the first place as he belongs in the jungle, wild and free. Of course, Pucca is struck by an idea and she changes from her explorer clothes to jungle clothes to chase Garu down. Dumpling comments that Garu won't be free for much longer, now that Pucca decides to stay in the jungle to be with him forever. The segment ends with Pucca chasing Garu through the trees, both of them hollering all the way.

Trivia[]

  • The title is a reference to the George of the Jungle franchise.
  • In real life, lions live in the African Savannah instead of the jungle.
  • Linguini teases that Ho's disguise reminds him of his ex-wife. Though it's not known if its official, it does note that Linguini is the only one of the chefs to have been married at least once.
